Olathe South flys past SM North
By Jay Senter The Shawnee Mission Post
The Shawnee Mission North faithful packed the stands at their home stadium for Senior Night Friday hoping to see the Indians secure their first winning season since 2004. Instead, they suffered through the team’s second worst loss of the year.
The Indians were the favorites heading into the game against Olathe South, boasting a better overall record than the Falcons and coming off an impressive 61-38 victory against Shawnee Mission Northwest last week that saw their offense effectively use a number of weapons. On Friday, however, it was the Falcons whose offense couldn’t be stopped.
Led by quarterback Nick Jouret and strong running support from Taylor Jones, Tyler Cavil and Oakley Reed, Olathe South had the SM North defense on its heels practically from the opening kickoff.
Jouret piloted the team down the field for a touchdown drive on the opening possession that he capped off with an 8-yard keeper.
The Indians struck back quickly, though, when quarterback Will Schneider found Avante Williams on a slant route, which Williams managed to extend into a 20-yard touchdown after juking the Falcons defense.
Jouret and the Falcons had scored three more touchdowns as the final minute of the first half arrived, but a big fourth-down stop by the SM North defense on their own 8-yard line gave the Indians a shot to tie the game at 28 before the half with a long touchdown drive. Instead, the Indians turned the ball over on a fumble. Jouret found receiver Tre Adger in the closing seconds for a 34-yard touchdown that made it 34-20 as the teams headed to the locker room,
