The Kansas City Chiefs have announced this week’s Coach of the Week honors. The awards go to William Chrisman’s Scorpio Horn and Blue Valley’s Eric Driskell

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, Driskell and Horn will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each coach is now a finalist for their state’s Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.

The 2016 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis. The Chiefs Coach of the Week program is intended to honor individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.

Blue Valley was impressive in its 45-28 win over previously undefeated Mill Valley. The win moves the Tigers to 4-0.

Driskell said this is an honor for the entire program.

“It is an honor for our program to receive an award like this and the only way it is possible is to have a great coaching staff as well as great players,” Driskell said. “So on behalf of our program we truly appreciate the recognition of our efforts.”

William Chrisman won its biggest regular season game in school history with a 43-39 over powerhouse Staley. That victory moved the Bears to 6-0 on the season guaranteeing the program its first winning season since the early 1980s.

Horn said it is great for his players to be recognized.

“There are great kids at William Chrisman and finally they are getting recognized for doing something the right way,” Horn said. “This means the world to me and will continue to push myself and coaching staff to coach these kids as hard as we can on a daily basis.”
