Smithvile edges LeBlond to move to 6-0

Smithville defeated Bishop LeBlond 17-6 in a Midland Empire Conference clash on Friday at Smithville High School.

The Warriors (6-0, 4-0 MEC) faced a game LeBlond squad coming off of two consecutive MEC defeats.

With the game still hanging in the balance in the third quarter, the Warriors led LeBlond (3-3, 1-3 MEC) by the score of 7-6.

The Warriors forced the Golden Eagles to a punt after starting the second half after a promising start for LeBlond. Junior quarterback Sean Davis connected with senior receiver Connor Lockhart on a 28-yard pass play, but couldn't turn that into points.

Davis threw for 223 yards on 14-for-31 passing with one interception.

After receiving the ball back, the Warriors went had an 11-play, 71-yard drive capped off by a 17-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jake Boyd. That stretched the Warriors lead to 14-6 with 4 minutes, 58 seconds left in the third quarter.

Boyd finished the game with 153 yards rushing on 23 totes with two touchdowns. He also had an interception and a sack.
