Maryville tops Pius, Mid Buchanan falls

Maryville went right to work Friday in its annual march to the playoffs.

The Spoofhounds shutout St. Pius X in a game at the Hound Pound that was basically over by halftime.

Maryville (2-0) racked up three first-half touchdowns and added two-point conversions each time to build a 24-0 lead over the Warriors (1-1).

John Zimmerman ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Class 3, No. 1-ranked Spoofhounds and paced the rushing attack with 52 yards on six carries.

Maryville counted heavily on its ground attack in the game with 11 players getting at least one rushing attempt.

Bob Bruckner and Jacob Reuter each added a touchdown on the ground.

In the passing game, Trey Oglesby contributed a 12-for-15 day for 164 yards and a 14-yard touchdown strike to Matt Twaddle.

Maysville 12, Mid-Buchanan 7

Mid-Buchanan opened the scoring Friday, but couldn’t keep the momentum going in a loss to Maysville.

The Dragons struck first on a 15-yard Stetson Brant run and a Hayden Ellison point after.

When the first quarter ended, Mid-Buchanan (1-1)held a 7-0 lead, but they were done putting points on the board.

Maysville drew within a single point by halftime on a

Kaleb Poppelwell 2-yard scamper. The point after failed.

The Wolverines (1-1) trailed 7-6 at the end of the first half, but managed to grab the lead and the final margin of victory in the third quarter on a 15-yard pass from Poppelwell to Austin Podevsek.
