Leavenworth rolls Washington

Following Leavenworth’s second victory of the season in as many games, Pioneers Coach Mark Littrell reminded his team of what lies ahead and reminded them that it is them that will determine the outcome of this season.
“Write the story,” Littrell said following the Pioneers 46-0 victory over Washington Wednesday night referring to his team being in control of its own destiny.
The Pioneers (2-6 overall, 2-0, +42 in district play) started the season 0-6, but have since come out and dominated their opponents outscoring them 84-0 in the last two games. For Littrell, the gauntlet of a schedule they played in their first six games has brought them to this point.
“We had a tough schedule. We played five of the best 6-A teams in the state,” exclaimed Littrell. “I’m so proud of how our kids took that learning experience and built that into getting ready for the districts.”
Following their 38-0 victory over Schlagle, the Pioneers picked up where they left off scoring on their first three drives to take a 21-0 advantage. To that point, Leavenworth had only experienced one third down. With 9:28 left in the second, the Wildcats (1-7, 0-2) looked to stop the Pioneers forcing a third and 16 on the Wildcats 35-yard line following back-to-back runs for a loss. Leavenworth senior quarterback Drew Sachen took a three step drop and launched the ball to senior wide out Jerry Hanks who took off up the left sideline toward the endzone. Hanks, a 6-foot-6 senior was covered by junior defensive back Brandon Egans who was in position to make a play on the ball before Hanks leapt over him with his arms out stretched and pulled in the ball right over the top of Egans head at the two-yard line before falling on him and into the end zone.
“It was a great effort by Jerry and a good ball thrown by Drew,” said Littrell.
