Leavenworth corrals Stallions 38-0
The Pioneers got their first win of the season at a perfect time, coming at home on Senior Night to start district play against F.L. Schlagle.
Leavenworth racked up over 400 yards rushing in the contest, led by junior Wade Jackson’s 122 yards on 18 carries.
Jackson had two rushing touchdowns in the contest, a feat matched by his classmate Clifford Robinson. Sophomore Vershaun Adams also had a touchdown run. Senior John Buckley converted a field goal to complete the Leavenworth scoring.
The Pioneers are now 1-6 overall and 1-0 in district tournament play. Leavenworth will travel to Washington next week.
Lansing tames Wildcats 58-8
Lansing has started out district play with a win, and in very convincing fashion on the road at Washington.
The Lions got three touchdowns from senior Zack Schneider, along with two scores from junior Quinton McQuillan and senior Nick Redwine to improve to 4-3 overall in 2015.
Senior De’Waun Wilkes also had a rushing touchdown,and senior Steve Ray returned a kickoff 65 yards for a score. Junior Justin Green made a tackle for a safety.
Lansing is 1-0 in district tournament play, and will have a short week before hosting F.L. Schlagle on Wednesday.
Basehor-Linwood trounces Piper 55-21
The Bobcats were unforgiving guests on the home field of the Pirates on Friday, outscoring Piper 34-7 in the first half to get a victory to start off district tournament play.
Senior Jahron McPherson collected 136 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns on the night to lead the Basehor-Linwood offense. Junior quarterback Justin Phillips compiled 185 passing yards and threw three touchdown passes on 10-of-15 passing. Senior Austin Ettinger also surpassed the century mark on the ground, going for 104 yards and a touchdown in the game. Single touchdowns for the Bobcats were scored by senior Nick Fisher, junior Jackson Brimblecom and junior Chas Rollo.
Basehor-Linwood is now 4-3 overall, 4-1 in Kaw Valley League games, and 1-0 in district tournament play. The Bobcats will host Atchison next week.
Atchison defends home field against Tonganoxie 30-14
The Chieftains got two touchdowns from junior Jordan Brown and played a much better second half on defense, but a 24-point first-half for Atchison was all it needed to send Tonganoxie to its fourth defeat of the season.
The Chieftains are now 3-4 overall and 0-1 in district play. Tonganoxie will host Piper next week.
