Welcome to Five From Friday our new Saturday feature that highlights some of the best quotes, notes, stats and performances of the games Friday night. Each Saturday evening PrepsKC will post a Five From Friday looking back on the night that was.

Quote of the night

“We both wear Adidas uniforms, we’ve both got tech fit, just see how they fill theirs out and see how we fill ours out, there’s all you need to know.” St. Pius X Rick Byers said after his team’s 56-7 loss to Maryville.

Stat line of the night

Justin Mitchell, quarterback, Platte County 19 of 40 264 yards passing  3 TDs, 21 carries 137 yards rushing 1 TD

The Pirates signal caller helped to engineer a 41-24 come from behind win at St. Joseph Central. Platte County trailed 34-17 heading into the fourth quarter when Mitchell and the offense got going scoring four times to earn the win and move to 2-0 on the season.

Call of the night

Park Hill trailed Smithville 6-0 after the first quarter until grabbing the lead in the next period. The Trojans took control of the game when Billy Maples found DJ Johnson with just 16 seconds left before half to make the score 21-6.

Team of the night

Truman – The Patriots bounced back from a shutout loss to Lee’s Summit in Week No. 1 to spoil Raytown South’s coming out party at their new stadium with a 25-22 victory. Truman jumped out to a big lead early and then held on as the Cardinals tried to mount a furious comeback. The Patriots earned their first win of the year to move to 1-1 while South fell to 0-2.

Big Winner

Staley – The Falcons moved to 2-0 with another impressive win. Last week Staley opened the year with a 35-0 pasting of Blue Springs. This week the Falcons continued their run through the Suburban Big Six by dominating Raymore-Peculiar 35-10. It’s only two weeks but Staley looks like it could be a state championship contender.
