Park Hill South found its new coach inside the building. Assistant coach Mike Sharp has been selected to be the next head coach pending approval of the Park Hill School Board.

Sharp was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers last season and before that he was an assistant at Park Hill for 10 years. He spent the first nine years of his career under Greg Reynolds and then one under Josh Hood before moving to South to be on Mark Simcox’s staff last season. Simcox announced his retirement after the season and now Sharp will become the next head coach at South.

South Activities Director John Carr said he is excited to have Sharp as the next head coach.

“Mike brings great passion and intensity to the program,” Carr said. “He is very organized and committed to Park Hill South. He has coached on both sides of the ball so he knows what it takes to be successful.”

For Sharp the chance to be a head coach in the Park Hill district was something that is very exciting.

“It’s a great district and it has great support in terms of administration,” Sharp said. “We have the ability to recruit a lot of quality coaches but also we just have great kids. So for me it’s been a career goal of mine to be a head coach but also a head coach in the Park Hill School District so I feel very blessed that I have this opportunity.”
