Two are coaching openings have been filled and two more have come open in the process.

Blue Valley Southwest officially hired Spring Hill coach Anthony Orrick after last night’s board meeting and Olathe North announced that it has promoted assistant coach Chris McCartney to the head coaching position.

Orrick’s position at Spring Hill is currently open as another Metro job on the Missouri side is open as well. Park Hill South’s Mark Simcox has announced he will be retiring as a head coach and the Panthers are currently in the process of looking for a new coach.

Orrick’s move to Southwest is a bit of a homecoming. He was a player at Blue Valley and returned as an assistant coach for four years before moving to Spring Hill. Orrick was the Broncos defensive coordinator before taking over as the head coach before the 2009 season. In the last six seasons Spring Hill won district titles in 2012 and 2013 and advanced to the playoffs for three straight years earning the first playoff win since 1990 with its win over Ottawa in 2012.

Orrick said he is excited about the opportunities at Blue Valley Southwest.

“I am really looking forward to getting started at Southwest,” Orrick said. “I hope to instill high character and traditions within the program. Although Blue Valley Southwest is a newer school it is a homecoming for me to my hometown of Stilwell and I am excited to build a successful program with the players and community.”

McCartney has been on staff for almost two decades and North Athletic Director Jason Herman said he is thrilled with the opportunity to promote McCartney.

"I am very excited for Coach McCartney and the future of the Olathe North program," Herman said. "He has been on our staff for 18 years and has put as much blood, sweat, and tears as anybody else in the history of the program. We will not skip a beat with him as the Head Coach."
