East Buchanan did everything it could to earn the No. 1 seed in Class 2 District 8.

The Bulldogs won all of their games, claimed the KCI Conference championship for the first time since 2004, but still ended up second in the district seeding list when MSHSAA released those numbers three weeks ago.

On Friday, East Buchanan had a chance to show they were, in fact, the best team in the district. And the team ranked No. 4 in the state media poll did so with an emphatic 50-34 victory over Brookfield at Burlington Field — named for the train line that runs right next to the stadium.

Quarterback Colby Rapp passed for 431 yards and five touchdowns — three in the second quarter — that helped East Buchanan (12-0) pull away from the other set of Bulldogs.

“It is a huge win; we did literally everything we could to be a one seed,” Rapp said. “We didn’t even get a one seed, it hurt deep down, but we got the job done and that is all that matters.”

Rapp threw an interception on East Buchanan’s first drive but led his team on scoring drives the next four possessions to essentially put the game away.
