Welcome to Five From Friday our new Saturday feature that highlights some of the best quotes, notes, stats and performances of the games Friday night.

Quote of the night

“Personally, this was the best game of my life that I’ve ever played in. This one is going to stick with me, and I am going to remember it for a while.” Liberty running back Devon Bryant after his 170 two touchdown performance in his team’s 42-35 win over Park Hill South.

Stat line of the night

Joey Dolan, Blue Valley North, quarterback – 454 yards passing 3 TDs, 103 yards rushing 2 TDs

The Mustangs signal caller did it all in North’s 45-35 win over Shawnee Mission Northwest. After going winless last season the Mustangs have now won two of their last three games and have a chance to make the Kansas Class 6A playoffs.

Call of the night

Olathe Northwest made history Friday night with its first ever win over Olathe East. The game wasn’t close and Jesse Rose made one of the most spectacular catches of the night.

Team of the night

Blue Springs South – The Jaguars had struggled with youth and injuries for most of the season. It didn’t help that seven of their nine games came against teams ranked in the top 10 of Classes 5 and six. The Jaguars won their last two regular season games and then opened districts with a 35-14 domination of Timberland. South entered its district as the No. 5 seed but with a win this week over top seeded Francis Howell the Jaguars could be the favorites with a chance to advance all the way to the Class 6 semis.

Big winner

Eudora – The Cardinals have gotten a little better each week under first-year head coach Jesse Owen and entered district play at 3-3. They have since won two straight and can lock up a district title with a win this week over Baldwin.
