Fort Osage rolls past Raytown

And on the ninth week of the Missouri high school football season, Fort Osage crushed visiting Raytown 48-7.
And Fort Osage coach Ryan Schartz saw it was impressive the Indians had finished the regular season undefeated. And he decided that on the 10th week they would rest before getting ready for postseason play in Week 11.
“I’m going give them time off, (the) coaches time off and I’m going to take my kids to the Pumpkin Patch, I think, after school,” Schartz said following Friday night’s Suburban Middle Seven victory.
It’s a much-needed rest, according to Schartz.
“They’re sick and tired of hearing me holler at them all the time,” he said. “We’re going to rest, we’re going to get them focused up, get them straight in the classroom and come back at them late in the week next week.”
Defensive back/linebacker Anthony Smith sees the down time as a period for the Indians to “just get better.”
“That’s all we can do – is just get better,” said Smith, whose 77-yard, fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown helped Fort Osage (9-0 overall, 6-0 league) rout the Blue Jays (2-7, 2-4).
The Indians turned it into a blowout with a 27-point second quarter to lead 27-0 at halftime. Jesse McBee’s 41-yard TD run early in the quarter and Skylar Thompson’s 11-, 17- and 3-yard TD passes to Matt Smith, Smith again and Kevin Rush help them build their cushion.
“First quarter, we came out sluggish and we didn’t play real well,” Schartz said. “Credit to Raytown. They played pretty well that first quarter.”
But during the second quarter, “Kids started calming down again, settling down and playing well.”
Fort Osage carried its second-quarter momentum into the third quarter by outscoring Raytown 14-0. McBee’s 13- and 64-yard TD runs helped make it a 41-point ballgame. McBee rushed for 187 yards on 14 carries, and Thompson completed 12 of 24 for 157 yards.
