Maryville clinches third straight MEC title

Maryville concluded a third perfect run through the Midland Empire Conference with the same recipe as before – a strong rushing game and a defense that comes up with big plays.
The Spoofhounds rolled to a 39th straight victory with a 55-28 victory over Lafayette at Alumni Stadium thanks to a 48-point first half.
The running back triumvirate of Brody McMahon, Dakota Beemer and Payden Dawson combined for eight of the touchdowns for Maryville (9-0, 7-0 MEC).
“The guys kept opening up the holes up front and if (Lafayette) stopped one of us, something else opened up,” said Beemer, who ran for a pair of touchdowns and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score. “They were tough. By far the best team we have played.”
The high-powered offense provided what many expected. Maryville ran for 399 yards, while Lafayette passed for 391, but for the 10th year in a row the Spoofhounds came out on top.
Class 3's No. 1-ranked team and two-time defending champions scored on the opening drive and then a pair of stands by the defense set up two more scores for the Maryville offense. Eight minutes into the contest, the Spoofhounds had built a three-touchdown lead.
Maryville received and marched down the field and scored on the ninth play of the drive, a 6-yard touchdown from McMahon. Lafayette (6-3, 5-2) didn't have a chance to answer as a high snap resulted in a 20-yard loss on its very first play.
