LeBlond, Maryville roll to wins

The Golden Eagles returned two fumbles for touchdowns to spark a 35-21 in the Midland Empire Conference opener in Cameron.

LeBlond (3-0, 1-0) received touchdowns from Connor Haynes on a 36-yards and 50-yard fumble returns. The Eagles broke a 14-all tie on a 31-yard pass from Quinton Obermeier to make it 21-14 at halftime.

Haynes’ fumble return in the third padded the lead before Eli Lilly caught an 11-yard pass from Jack Schanze.

Josh Thompson, who had a 94-yard kickoff return, caught a 31-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Dragons (0-3, 0-1) in the fourth but it proved to be too little too late.

Alex Pyatt ran for 121 yards for LeBlond, while Schanze threw for 188 yards.

Maryville 64

Chillicothe 3

Class 3 state champion Maryville ran its win streak to 33 straight with a convincing victory over previously unbeaten Chillicothe at home.

The Spoofhounds clung to an early 8-3 lead in the firrst quarter before scoring the next 56 straight points to throttle the Hornets (2-1, 0-1 Midland Empire Conference).

After the Hornets got on the board with a field goal from Wagner Chapman, Brody McMahon returned the kickoff 95 yards for a score. The all-state running back then scored three straight touchdowns on the ground – 9, 76 and 19 yards – to extend the lead for the Spoofhounds (3-0, 1-0). A pair of Payden Dawson scores pushed Maryville’s lead to 50-3 at the break.
