The Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association has entered into an agreement that will bring the annual Kansas vs. Missouri All Star Game to Blue Springs for the next four years.
The games will be played at Blue Springs High School in 2014 and 2016 and Blue Springs South in 2015 and 2017. This gives the event a home for the next four years after moving back and forth across the state line the last few seasons.
"It is good to have a home for the MO-KAN All Star game that will provide some stability and financial opportunities,” GKCFCA President Kyle Roach said. “That should allow us an opportunity, as an association, to explore some additional means to expand our mission.”
In all the game has been held 22 times with 14 of those games played in Kansas. The first two years the game was played at Arrowhead Stadium before being played the next 10 years at high schools in Kansas. In 2004-2006 the game was played at William Jewell College before returning to Kansas for the next two games. Starting in 2009 the game began a rotation to sites on each side of the state line starting with Blue Springs South. Since then it has been held at Shawnee Mission North (2010), Belton (2011), Blue Valley High School (2012) and Lee’s Summit North (2013).
Blue Springs has a history of hosting high school sporting events outside of their regular games for their schools. Since 2011 the district has hosted the Missouri boys and girls state soccer championships. The district has also been home for sectional boys and girls basketball for classes 1-4.
“We are pleased to host this annual event for the next four years,” Blue Springs District Activities Director Mark Bubalo said. “We see it as a way to help the football coaches association in the KC area promote high school football and all of the positive things associated with the game.
“We are fortunate to have wonderful facilities because of the great support of activities and athletics by the patrons of our district. This is just one more event that allows us to bring the best of high school football, and high school sports in general, to the community.”
This year’s game will be played June 19 at Blue Springs High School’s Peve Stadium.
