Junior Kenneth Banks is used to lining up to catch passes, but he was throwing them in the fourth quarter with the Lions down 42-21.
Starting quarterback Krystian Abbott left the game with an injury after completing a 29-yard pass to junior Collin McQuillan.
It was unclear whether the junior got hurt on that play or after being sacked two plays earlier.
But Banks came in and the rally began.
He handed it off to senior receiver Khalil Bailey and completed two passes to senior Ben Johnson before taking it in himself for a 20-yard touchdown.
The deficit was 14 with 6:25 left.
An onside kick failed, but the Lansing defense forced a three-and-out.
Then the Banks show came back on.
He completed six passes in a row to three different receivers and finished it off with a 12-yard touchdown run.
With 3:21 left and down by seven, an onside kicked failed again, but Schlagle went three-and-out again.
Lansing would have it on their own 32 with 1:33 remaining, but the Lions would only get to the Schlagle 43 before turning it over on downs and fall 42-35.
