Maryville hasn’t been able to start out fast this season, but on Friday night in Smithville the Spoofhounds were able to exorcise those demons behind a very efficient and patient Trent Nally, beating Smithville 50-10.
Maryville’s first drive started on its own 20-yard line, the Spoofhounds went 80 yards on 14 plays eating more than six minutes off the clock. The drive was capped off by senior quarterback Trent Nally who scored from two yards out, after a Spoofhound two-point conversion Maryville led 8-0
Maryville’s second possession ended after one play when junior running back Brody McMahon broke off a 53 yard run, McMahon was chased down from behind by a Smithville defender who stripped the ball away and recovered by the Warriors at its own 25 yard line.
After a Smithville three and out, the Spoofhounds took over on its own 40 yard line. The Spoofhounds only needed one play to find the end zone. Nally completed a pass to a wide open Adam Thompson for 60 yard touchdown with 1:56 remaining in the first quarter.
On Smithville’s next drive, senior running back Nolan Gromacki fumbled the ball at his own 32 yard line. The fumble was recovered by Maryville’s Peydon Dawson at the Smithville’s 30 yard line. Nine plays later Maryville was on the board again thanks to a two yard plunge by Nally, Maryville led 20-0 with 11:05 remaining in the first half.
