The Kansas district assignments for the next football cycle that starts in 2014 have been announced.
With the changes in classification and the new two-division structure of Class 4A there are some interesting district assignments. One that could excite football fans in the Metro is Lawrence Free State in District 5 which should move it to the West side of the bracket. That means if the Firebirds can find their way to the 6A title game in 2014 or 2015 they will match up with another Metro team.
Other interesting district matchups in 6A have Gardner-Edgerton in a district with EKL rivals Blue Valley and Blue Valley Northwest along with Olathe South.
In 5A Leavenworth’s move down has it in a district with Lansing, Washington and Schlagle. The Leavenworth-Lansing rivalry exists in other sports and will now be seen in football. Another interesting districts in 5A has Bonner Springs, Turner, St. James Academy and Mill Valley competing.
In 4A Division 1 District 1 Basehor-Linwood, Piper and Tonganoxie will be joined by Atchison.
