The Bulldogs took the lead in the KCI Conference race, whipping Lawson on Friday night at East Buchanan High School in a battle of the league’s lone remaining unbeatens. Class 1 No. 9-ranked East Buchanan improved to 6-0 (4-0 KCI) and beat Class 2 tied for No. 10-ranked Lawson (4-2, 3-1 KCI) for the first time since 2004, which marks the last year East Buchanan won an outright KCI crown.

Sophomore Zac Johnson, the area’s receiving leader, continued his torrid season with a six-catch, 120-yard night, highlighted by a 67-yard TD reception from Chase Rowland in the first quarter.

East Buchanan romped to the first 26 points, with Nate Griffin catching a 43-yard, second-quarter pass from quarterback Eddie Kilgore (9-for-15, 120 yards), back after missing a week with a leg injury. Ryan Kilgore then ran in from 4 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 20-0 halftime edge, and Austin Potter plunged in from 1 yard out in the third quarter to mark a 26-0 advantage.
