Tony Winningham passed 45 yards to Isaiah Gotsis for a touchdown with 49 seconds remaining and Michael Payne kicked the winning extra point as Van Horn outlasted visiting Wyandotte at Truman High School Friday night.
“He (Winningham) was scrambling around and avoided three sacks and found Gotsis wide open,” Van Horn coach Jeff Tolbert said of the winning touchdown.
J.J. Rivers rushed 26 times for 230 and five touchdowns and Winningham passed for two scores to lead the Falcons.
Wyandotte had gone ahead 48-42, but a big kickoff return by Sylvester Newman put Van Horn in position to win the game. The Falcons improved to 2-0 and defeated Wyandotte for the third-consecutive year.
