Grain Valley wouldn’t be denied.

The Eagles scored the final two touchdowns in rallying for a 23-17 victory over visiting St. Joseph Benton Friday night and even their record at 1-1.

Grain Valley tied the score 17-17 on Brice Quinn’s 46-yard, third-quarter run and Evan Velasquez’s extra point. Then in the fourth quarter, Kellen Holland passed 59 yards to Hunter Ramirez for the game-winning touchdown.

The Eagle victory snapped a seven-game losing streak and avenged last year’s 13-12 loss to Benton.

“The defense played real well,” Grain Valley coach Jimmy Tucker said. “They scored 42 points on Ozark last week. We did a good job on a very good running back.
