Aquinas tops Turner to qualify for playoffs
By Matt Hallauer Special to PrepsKC Saint Thomas Aquinas secured a playoff spot with a 28-6 victory over the Turner Golden Bears in Kansas City, Kan., tonight, setting up a match-up for multiple championships with rival Bishop Miege in seven days.
Bishop Miege blew out J.C. Harmon 75-6 Friday leaving the rival archdiocesan schools with 2-0 district records. The Stags host the Saints Friday in Roeland Park. The Saints need to win to secure the district championship and the Eastern Kansas League championship.
Tonight, the Saints started by scoring on their first two drives. Each was a pass from Danten Consentino to running back Nick Williams. Williams scored again on the Saints’ fifth drive, securing a 21-0 lead by halftime. Consentino completed 14 of 20 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns before the Saint coach Mike Thomas took out his starters in the fourth quarter.
