Pleasant Ridge gets must win
By The Leavenworth Times staff
Staring into the face of a must-win situation Friday, Pleasant Ridge delivered in a huge way.
By putting up video game-like numbers, the Rams rushed for an eye-popping 549 yards, Ridge tallied a 46-38 win over Maur Hill-Mount.
“The running backs followed the o-line,” PR coach Pat McCollim said. “The o-line and coach Jim Clay really went to work this week and fixed some things they identified as problems in our blocking scheme. All our backs had a lot of yards, so I give a lot of credit to the line.”
Both teams came out hot, putting up 58 points combined in the first half to make for a 30-28 PR edge at half. Maur gained a lot of their yards through the air, so one of the keys to Ridge’s success in the second half was slowing down thatpass game.
Ridge did so while also putting up 16 more points of its own by continuing to ride the backs of it tailbacks Blake Graham, Riley Camp, Kyle Grantham and quarterback Nick Holmes.
“Their quarterback was very talented,” McCollim said. “We tried to get pressure on him, but couldn’t in the first half. Then in the second half we brought guys from different directions and got him to rush his throws a little bit, so that helped.”
The Rams, 3-5 overall and 1-1 in district play, have a short week and will travel to ACCHS Thursday. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
