High school football and sports in general is a big part of every community. The drama and action that accompanies Friday nights is something almost everyone looks back fondly when they remember their time in high school.
That passion is strong for most schools but even stronger in the smaller communities in and around the Kansas City Metro. Those communities support their teams and the businesses support the communities and the schools as well.
One of the great companies that support sports and schools in the communities they serve is Country Mart. For years Country Mart has supported students and schools through its scholarship program and the last two years it has done even more through the Country Mart Conference.
The Country Mart Conference allows the schools in the Country Mart communities to compete against each other on the field, in the classroom and in school spirit. At the end of the season the school with the highest points receives a $500 donation.
Country Mart Group Sales Manager Rex Worboys said this type of sponsorship is a natural fit for Country Mart.
“Country Mart is community,” Worboys said. “The owners and managers live in their communities. Their children attend the schools, play sports, march in the band, etc. Many of the students’ first jobs are working in the local Country Mart. When you are part of the community, you need to participate and support those communities and what better way is there to support a community than to support the kids.”
PrepsKC has partnered with Country Mart the last two years to help bring the best high school football coverage to the Metro and surrounding areas. Country Mart’s commitment to community and helping young people makes is right in line with the other blue chip community minded companies that partner with PrepsKC.
“We are thrilled to be associated with a company like Country Mart,” PrepsKC Managing Editor Dion Clisso said. “High school football is a part of the very fabric of communities and Country Mart understands that. Their commitment to the communities they serve is strong and we are glad we can help them strengthen that commitment.”
While football is part of the driving force behind the Country Mart Conference, other parts of the school help to make up the contest.
“Everyone knows that there is always a need that falls outside of the budget, whether it is at home, at work or at school,” Worboys said. “We have tried to develop programs that help the schools with fundraising outside of the normal channels.
“With the Country Mart Conference we reward the conference champion, the school most spirited and the best band. We are selling t-shirts with the proceeds going back to the schools and we have a competition in the stores selling window hangers to support the team, the band or the cheer squad with all proceeds going to the school.”
This program along with the Country Mart’s partnership with PrepsKC and the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association is a way a local company can spend money locally that makes a direct impact with the communities it serves.
