The St. Mary’s football team and new coach Tim Cogan are no longer winless.

The Trojans used a 22-0 halftime lead lead as a stepping stone to an easy 42-0 victory over Wentworth Military Academy Friday night at Truman High School.

A 30-point second half capped the Trojan victory.

“We had a good week of practice and the kids were really focused because of homecoming week.” Cogan said. “All three of our seniors – Sam Kenney, Drew Huttinger and Ozzy Litchfield – led the way. Tucker West did a good job of running the ball.”

West scored on runs of 11, 13 and 3 yards.

Huttinger had touchdowns runs of 2 and 6 yards and passed to Litchfield 7 yards for another score. He also ran for a pair of two-point conversions and passed to Litchfield for another.

The Trojans hope to make it two victories in a row when they play at Sherwood next Friday night in a Crossroads Conference game. Sherwood defeated Cole Camp 20-14 Friday night.

PLEASANT HILL 42, GRAIN VALLEY 0: This was not the way Grain Valley wanted to launch Missouri River Valley Conference West play.

Josh Shewmaker completed 15 of 23 passes for 204 yards, including 10 to Tyler Sanford for 119 yards, to lead the visiting Roosters to the easy victory. He also rushed five times for 59 yards.
