Grain Valley evens record with victory
By The Examiner staff For one quarter things weren’t going well for the Grain Valley football team. The Eagles trailed 14-0. But it was all Grain Valley after that as it rallied for a 25-14 victory over Sedalia Smith-Cotton Friday night to even its record at 2-2. “The interception return at halftime was huge,” said Grain Valley coach Jimmy Tucker. “It was one of the big plays of the game. And we got two field goals in the fourth quarter.” Kylan Alexander returned an intercepted Dakota Brown pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown with one second remaining in the half. The score brought the Eagles to within 14-13. Ben Andes scored on 1-yard run with 5:42 remaining in the second quarter for the Eagles’ first score. Evan Velasquez added the extra point. Travis Delozier scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter and Velasquez kicked field goals of 18 and 36 yards in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory for Grain Valley.
