The third time was the charm for Wyandotte.

The Bulldogs, after leading 12-0 at halftime, opened the season with a 24-6 football victory over Van Horn Friday night.

The Falcons defeated Wyandotte 39-20 last year and 6-0 in 2010. But Wyandotte was in command Friday night as Van Horn failed to open the season 2-0. The Falcons defeated Polo 28-14 in the season opener last week.

Denzel Strong scored Van Horn’s lone touchdown on an 8-yard, second quarter run.

“The kids played hard,” Van Horn coach Jeff Tolbert said. “We didn’t make the plays when we had to. They did some things when they needed to. They beat us on two long passes early.
