Maysville topples Mid Buchanan

Mid-Buchanan unraveled on one single play Friday night at Mid-Buchanan High School.
A muffed punt late in the second quarter gave Maysville the chance to score a go-ahead touchdown ahead of halftime, and Dakota Peterson’s clutch scoring run eventually held up as the winner. The Wolverines shut out Mid-Buchanan in the second half on the way to a 24-6 nonconference win.
“(After the turnover), the kids could smell the blood so to speak,” Maysville coach Ed Fry said. “They had that killer instinct going into halftime and when we came out they were ready to go.”
Drifting back to field a punt in the final minute of the second quarter, Mid-Buchanan’s Colton Hoffman tried to scoop the ball up and run.
Instead, it slipped through his grasp, and Maysville recovered at the Dragons’ 21-yard line. Peterson scampered into the en zone with 14 seconds left before halftime from 6 yards out to put the Wolverines ahead 12-6
Peterson cut to the right side and broke through three defenders at the goal line for his second score to that point.
The late score shifted the momentum into Maysville’s favor, forcing the Dragons to make several mistakes in the second half that allowed the Wolverines to pull away. Maysville kept the upper hand and again capitalized on a Mid-Buchanan mistake in the final quarter. For the rest of the story click here.
