First rankings of the season released
By PrepsKC staff Again this year PrepsKC is a voting member of the media panel that is ranking football teams in all six classes.
The group is made up of voters from print and broadcast media that cover high school football. The complete list of voting members follows the rankings.
This year the season will begin with two defending champions ranked in the top spot. Webb City in Class 4 and Lamar in Class 2 earned the top spot in their classes.
The Kansas City Metro and surrounding areas are well represented with 18 of the 60 spots made up of teams in the PrepsKC coverage area. Leading the way to start the year is Penney that grabbed the No. 1 spot in Class 1. The Hornets grab the top spot in Class 1 after spending the last two years in Class 2.
The other area teams ranked highest in their respective classes are Lafayette County (No. 4 in Class 2), Maryville (No. 2 in Class 3), Harrisonville (No. 3 in Class 4), Staley (No. 2 in Class 5) and Blue Springs (No. 2 in Class 6).
