2012 loaded with big games in Big 6
By PrepsKC staff The season is right around the corner and the preview of conference schedules continues now on PrepsKC.com
We are moving over to the Missouri side with a look at the Suburban Big 6 which features the six biggest schools on the Missouri side not named Rockhurst. The Conference has produced countless state finalists and champions including last year’s Class 6 champ Blue Springs South.
This season the new nine-game regular season with no district game requirements has provided with some interesting matchups every week of the season. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting games each week of the 2012 season.
Week 1
Belton at Raymore-Peculiar. The Pirates and Panthers rivalry goes way back but it has been a little under the radar the last few years with Ray-Pec’s move to Class 6. This should be a good first game for both teams.
Week 2
Lee’s Summit at Kearney. The Bulldogs moved up to Class 5 and they draw their first Class 6 opponent in the second game. Kearney has been dominant at times in Class 4 and beaten plenty of Class 5 teams so this is a chance for the Bulldogs to show something early in the season.
Week 3
Blue Springs at Rockhurst. Not much to say here. The Hawklets have won three straight over the Wildcats which is one of the longest streaks in this storied rivalry.
Week 4
Blue Springs South at Staley. It isn’t very often when two defending state champs square off and this should be a good one. South graduated a lot but the Jaguars don’t rebuild, they reload.
Week 5
Lee’s Summit West at Lee’s Summit. It took almost 10 years but this game means that all of the Lee’s Summit schools will have finally played each other.
Week 6
Liberty at Rockhurst. The Jays have showed a lot of improvement in 2011 and this game against Rockhurst will be a good test to see just where they are in 2012.
Week 7
Blue Springs at Blue Springs South and Lee’s Summit at Lee’s Summit North. This must be the Suburban Conference’s version of rivalry week. These are always great games and this year should be no different.
Week 8
Lee’s Summit at Raytown South. For the last two years when both teams were in Class 5 this was a great matchup. Now Ray South is in Class 4 and Lee’s Summit is in Class 6 but it should still be a good game.
Week 9
Lee’s Summit North at Raymore-Peculiar. This is a rematch of last year’s final game of the season that saw the Broncos edge the Panthers and earn a trip to the playoffs. With the new playoff system just seeding will be on the line but it will be interesting to see if this game can live up to last year’s.
