BETHANY, Mo. — South Harrison quarterback Dylan Heitz led the Bulldogs to a win Wednesday night without dropping back for a single pass.

The Class 1 District 14 champions ran away from St. Mary’s (Independence) 58-0 in their regional matchup at South Harrison High School behind 155 yards and five total touchdowns from Heitz.

Persistent wind and rain changed the game plan for South Harrison and its dual-threat quarterback.

Didn’t matter.

“Pre-game I saw that Dylan couldn’t throw the ball,” South Harrison head coach Caleb Obert said. “So I knew he was going to have to run. Under these conditions, I just told (the team) pre-game do whatever it takes to win.”

South Harrison (9-2) dominated from the outset, earning a rematch with Wellington-Napoleon on Monday.

Three minutes into the game, Heitz faked a handoff to running back Wyatt Thomas and broke through the middle of the line for an 11-yard touchdown. It was the first of many scoring trips.

“The line blocked good; backs were hitting the holes good, big holes. It was easy to run,” Heitz said. “Everything was clicking.”
