The Blue Springs South Jaguars are Class 6 District 7 champions.

South routed Liberty 43-6 Friday night at Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium to claim its third playoff appearance in the past four years.

Three weeks ago, the 8-2 Jaguars (2-1 in district play) lost their district opener 26-21 to crosstown rival Blue Springs, but followed with a convincing 35-20 win at Columbia Rock Bridge.

Rock Bridge edged Blue Springs 32-27 Friday night at home to knock the Wildcats out of the playoffs.
Blue Springs South will host Lee¹s Summit North next Friday at Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium and Rock Bridge will travel to Rockhurst.

“I’m so proud of all our kids, especially our seniors,” South coach Greg Oder said. “They were just outstanding tonight very businesslike, they didn¹t overlook an opponent that came to our place with two district losses.

“It was just a great performance on both sides of the ball.”

On offense, Steven Sullivan scored three touchdowns to raise his season total to 21. The speedster scored on runs of 47 and 83 yards and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Connor Harris.

Sullivan, who had just one carry in the second half, had six carries for 123 yards.

“He’s pretty good, isn’t he?” Oder said. “He’s just so fast. If he gets a step, he’s gone. And he had some big holes tonight to run through.”

The first thing Sullivan did after the game was credit his line.

“On the (83-yard) touchdown no one touched me,” Sullivan said as teammates stood around him and nodded in agreement. “I had huge holes to run through just huge.

“Our line was amazing tonight, because Liberty has a huge defensive line.”
