Lee's Summit snaps losing streak at Belton

The Lee’s Summit High School football team took a step toward returning to the Class 5 District 9 playoffs with a 35-14 win Friday night at Belton.
The victory snaps a four-game losing streak, gives the Tigers a chance at the postseason. The Tigers improved to 4-5 and 1-1 in district play.
“We got back to doing what we can do. I thought we played pretty well,” said Tigers Head Coach Eric Thomas. “It gives us a chance to win next week and get in the playoffs. That’s the bottom line.”
The top two finishers in each district advance to the playoffs. Lee’s Summit plays away to Ruskin Thursday. Lee’s Summit West sits in the driver’s seat at 2-0 with Lee’s Summit and Belton both at 1-1 and Ruskin at 0-2.
The first half proved to be a back-and-forth affair, but the second half solely belonged to the Tigers.
“We kept them alive on a lot of drives: too many penalties on our part, the punt block thing where they fake a punt, that’s unexcusable,” Thomas said. “We gave them a lot things in the first half. But I think we answered that in the second half.”
