TRENTON, Mo. — What appeared to be the first win of the season for Bishop LeBlond Friday night turned out to be another loss as Trenton orchestrated a fourth-quarter comeback to open district play at C.F. Russell Stadium.

LeBlond (0-8) jumped out with two quick scores in the first quarter before Trenton’s offense had the chance to get on the field and led until the 9-minute, 34-second mark of the final quarter. Behind the running of junior tailback Austin Dawkins, the Golden Eagles ran out to a 21-7 halftime lead.

Dawkins led all rushers, carrying the ball 35 times for 258 yards.

“We were resilient,” Trenton coach Wes Croy said. “We have been down 14-0 before this season, so I think that helped us when we got down in the first quarter.”

The two squads traded blows in the third quarter with Trenton scoring twice on drives sandwiching a LeBlond drive capped off by Dawkins’ third touchdown of the night.

A LeBlond fumble in the early fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles’ third of the game, turned the momentum in Trenton’s favor. The Bulldogs marched down the field and put the tying touchdown up on a one-yard run by Clay O’Neal.

After LeBlond was forced to punt from its own end zone on the ensuing drive, Trenton got the go-ahead touchdown on Keegan McGinness’ 26-yard run.
