Ray South pushed by Belton
By Allen Edmonds The Cass County Democrat-Missourian
The Belton Pirates successfully bottled up an explosive Raytown South rushing attack through most of three quarters Friday, but the Cardinals exploded in the fourth, running away with a 45-28 victory at Raytown.
The Pirates found themselves on the raw end of a 12-0 deficit early in the first quarter, but established control with an opportunistic defense and a passing attack that is beginning to show signs of productivity, jumping to a 14-12 edge after a quarter.
But Raytown South did just enough to maintain a slim 25-21 edge after three quarters before their stable of backs began to find the seams in Belton's fourth-quarter defense, running away with the win.
The Pirates fall to 1-6 on the season, beginning district play next week at Ruskin.
