Who doesn’t love lists?
With just a few weeks left in the regular season (how is that even possible?), here’s my lists highlighting all kinds of things across the high school football landscape.
Three things I think I know:
There’s no clear-cut local favorite in any of the classes. Blue Springs South would be the most likely, but they may face their toughest test of the season in Lee’s Summit West, a team that rebounded in big fashion after suffering their first loss of the season.
Week 5 in Missouri and Week 3 in Kansas might have been the craziest and best week of football in recent memory. If the weather delays and tornados weren’t enough, 19 games across the metro were determined by seven points or less.
One of the most insightful things on twitter during the high school football season might be the #RusBaerFootballProject. Baer, a former prep scribe, is following around different football teams in mid-Missouri for a week each. If you are on twitter, go back and follow his tweets from the week he covered two teams and the refs didn’t show up for the game. You can follow the whole thing here.
Three teams that might be underrated
Park Hill – The Trojans week 1 loss to Blue Springs South by seven points just keeps looking better and better.
Lawrence Free State- The Firebirds are off to a 1-3 start, but no one likely played a tougher first three weeks of the season. Watch out in the playoffs.
Butler- The Bears are off to a 5-1 start and received just one vote in the Class 2 poll. Are there nine other teams in Class 2 that stay within 34 of Lamar?
Three games I’m looking forward to this week
Blue Valley North @ Blue Valley- I watched Blue Valley North this summer and was impressed. If they can beat undefeated Blue Valley and improve to 4-1, that would be a momentous victory.
Osceola @ Adrian- The winner is guaranteed a share of the WEMO conference title and if Cass-Midway slips up against Rich Hill the winner would get the outright conference title.
Columbia Battle @ Lee’s Summit North- A win over the No. 2 team in Class 5 and defending champs would go a long way for the upstart Broncos.
