The new year is hear and we can start to look forward to the 2015 season.

As we look ahead we enter the offseason with some big questions. Most of those questions are around coaching changes and it looks to be a busy offseason as these jobs get filled and open at the same time.

The biggest questions are in Olathe where Olathe North and East are both open. Think about this for a minute. This fall will be the first time since the late 1981 neither Gene Wier or Jeff Meyers will be coaching an Olathe team.

Wier took over at North in 1981 and Meyers opened Olathe East in 1992. Wier was gone for a few years but returned in 2012 leading the Eagles to the Class 6A semifinals each of the last two years. Meyers had a long run of success that included 13-straight playoff appearances that ended this past season.

Meyers was fired following the end of the regular season and Wier has moved on to become the director of high school relations for the University of Kansas football program.

There could be some new faces on both sidelines this fall and that will be a big change for two of the top programs in Kansas 6A.

Not to be outdone the Shawnee Mission School District currently has two openings. Shawnee Mission South and Northwest are looking for new coaches. Shawnee Mission North was technically open before the holidays but Ben Bartlett had the interim tag removed from his title and will be back this year leading the Indians.

There are lots of other spots out there on both sides of the state line so change is definitely coming.

On another note a big shout out to Brett Jones on the Harrisonville football staff. Jones runs the Wildcats website which is one of if not the best team site in the Metro. If you are looking for any type of history on Harrisonville is your place.

Now Jones has added something that benefits all high school football junkies. Jones has finished a project started by the late Matt Floray. This project lists all of the Class and District assignments for all Missouri high schools dating back to the first year of the playoffs in 1968.

This list is long and detailed and is a great read for anyone who likes the history of high school football in Missouri. Thanks again Brett and great work.
