As long as there has been Olathe East football there has been Jeff Meyers leading the way. Meyers is the only coach the Hawks have ever had and he and his staff have had a very successful run.
During the last 21 seasons Meyers has compiled a 153-64 record making it to the Kansas 6A playoffs on a regular basis including a 10-year run of some of the most successful football in the Metro.
Meyers has been an assistant at Olathe North and Turner along with being a head and assistant coach at Indian Trails Junior High School. He said he has learned something from all the coaches he played for and worked with.
“A lot of coaches have influenced me starting with my father Jim Meyers,” Meyers said. “Others were Bud Wheeler my high school coach; Gene Wier I coached and student taught for him; Paul Brown, I was an assistant for him at Turner and my college coaches at Kansas State – Jim Donnan, Gary Darnell, Dennis Franchione, Jim Dickey.”
There are many rewarding things for Meyers every day but he said that he loves having a positive impact on young peoples’ lives. Meyers added that his coaching philosophy is very simple:
“I want to improve everyday as a person and as a coach,” Meyers said. “Do what is Right. Do the best you can. Treat others the way you want to be treated.”
