SAVANNAH, Mo. – Chase Spoonemore wanted to break through against Cameron in the Class 3 District 8 semifinals.

The goal wasn’t something too hard to reach, finding the endzone with the help of his offensive line and speed six times. It helped the Savages to a 56-14 win to advance to a district championship as its rightful host next week.

“He’s a good football player,” Savannah coach Randy Schrader said. "But yet again our offensive line was able to play really well, too. (Evan) Yount was able to do stuff, too, so that opened the outside stuff up. It was a really good team win for us.”

Spoonemore was joined by Yount, a junior running back, as the only Savannah (9-2) athletes to score. Each of the touchdowns were in the first half.

During that time, the Savages held Cameron (5-6) scoreless and recovered two fumbles. Savannah did not play starters in the second half.

“We came out ready to play right from the get-go,” Schrader said. "Our kids were locked in and they understand playoff football.”

Spoonemore jumped out with a 20-yard touchdown to cap off Savannah’s first drive of the game.

Yount added the second on a 80-yard run. Spoonemore had each of the touchdowns until Yount capped off the Savages’ scoring for the night.

“When the O-line reestablishes the line of scrimmage 10 yards down field, that helps a lot,” Spoonemore said. “Our O-line threw them off the ball really well. When that happens, it opens up running lanes all over.”
