After losing the lead late in the third quarter, Blue Springs South found a way to answer.
That was just another sign of progress for coach Matt Klein.
His Jaguars, down by three, scored the next two touchdowns to rally for a 41-30 victory on the road Friday night against Park Hill South at Preston Field.
The win is the second in three games for the Jaguars (2-6), who lost by one last week against Class 6 No. 5-ranked Park Hill.
The Jaguars didn’t let the close loss deter them.
“We struggled early on this year but the past three game we are getting things rolling before districts, and it is a good time to get rolling like this,” said Blue Springs South quarterback Max Conard, who passed for four touchdowns.
Conard and wide receiver Cortes Essex were key pieces in the rally for Blue Springs.
The Jaguars led at halftime, 27-17, but quickly lost the lead in the third quarter.
An interception on the first drive turned into points for Park Hill South (4-4) when quarterback Matt Suchanick ran in for a 1-yard score.
After the second Blue Springs South drive ended in a punt, the Panthers went down the field and scored on an 11-yard touchdown run by Joe Inzenga. That gave Park Hill South a 30-27 lead.
The Jaguars engineered an 80-yard drive to take the lead back over the next three minutes.
Conard had a 22-yard run and running back Nahshon Rick had a 20-yard gain, which moved the ball right outside the red zone.
On fourth-and-6 at the 18-yard line, Conard found Essex in the corner of the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. That was third connection between the two for a score.
Klein said the team had game this year where the opponent got momentum after taking the lead and never looked back.
