Blue Valley 31, Blue Valley Southwest 13
Down 6-0 into the second quarter, the Tigers scored 24 consecutive points to take the lead for good -- highlighted by Chase Jans’ 69-yard breakaway touchdown run on the first play of the second half.

That gave Blue Valley the 17-6 lead 10 seconds into the second half, which the Tigers (2-1, 2-1 Eastern Kansas League) stretched to 18 points 8 seconds later when Hayden Essex returned a fumble forced by Beau Palmer 20 yards on the next play from scrimmage.

Tanner Curry and Drew Jennings accounted for the two Blue Valley Southwest (0-3, 0-2 EKL). For Tiger, ranked fifth in Class 6A, Jans led all rushers with 163 yards, while Dorian Stephens added 105 yards and a touchdown.

Blue Valley West 10, St. James Academy 7
Quarterback Greg Riddle’s 4-yard, second-quarter keep proved to be the difference for the visiting Jaguars (2-1, 2-1 Eastern Kansas League) in their game played at Bishop Miege.

Earlier in the quarter, Jack Moellers connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Brady Feldman to give the Thunder (1-2, 1-2 EKL) the short-lived 7-3 lead.

Leavenworth 41, Basehor-Linwood 30
JoVaughn Darthard passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more while Jahawn Byrd accounted for 202 yards of offense and three touchdowns to lead host Leavenworth in their comeback United Kansas Conference win.

Byrd’s 6-yard run with 11:43 left in the game gave the Pioneers (1-2, 1-2) the lead for good at 34-30.

Ninety-five seconds earlier and while trailing 30-19, Darthard ran 25 yards for touchdown before completing the two-point conversion pass to help close the gap.

Chase Torkelson passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns for the Bobcats (1-2, 1-2), who themselves overcame a 13-point first-half deficit.

St. Thomas Aquinas 68, Blue Valley Northwest 16
Tank Young’s five first-half touchdowns -- including runs of 66 and 42 yards --were more than enough for the state’s top team in Class 5A.

In all, the host Saints (3-0, 3-0 Eastern Kansas League) accounted for 536 yards on the ground -- led by Young’s 216 on just 10 carries.

Mikey Pauley passed for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but the Huskies (1-2, 0-2) were down 28-0 less than 10 minutes into the game and were undone further by four turnovers -- one of which was for touchdown by Tommy Malicoat.

Shawnee Mission South 22, Lansing 18
Parker Minnick’s 86-yard fourth quarter touchdown and 2-point conversion ended up the game-winner as the visiting Raiders scored all 22 of their points unanswered in the second half and overcame an 18-0 halftime deficit to move to 2-1.

Minnick ended up with 124 yards rushing on just three carries, while quarterback Jack Mullen ran for two touchdowns.

Derrick Robinson also had 124 yards on the ground and a touchdown for the Lions (1-2), who intercepted Mullen three times in the loss.
