Protect the Wash House

Get your popcorn ready. The Wash House — home of the Washington Wildcats — should be rocking Friday.

For the second week in a row, Washington will play a team from Topeka. The Wildcats play host to visiting Seaman in the first round of the KSHSAA Class 5 state playoffs.

The matchup between Washington, 5-3, and Seaman, 4-4, is this week's DiPasquale Moore/PrepsKC Metro Game of the Week. And it should be a good one.

Washington is coming off an impressive 28-20 win at Topeka Highland Park (6-2) to close out the regular season. Seaman outlasted Piper (4-4) 28-21 in its final step before postseason play.

Neither team advanced past the first-round last season. This year, either the Wildcats or the Vikings will enjoy the sweet taste of a playoff win.

Could home-field advantage be at play? Sure bet.

Amid cheerleaders' twirling pom poms, a pep band, an entertaining public address announcer and a spirited fanbase, the Wildcats play in front of an electric crowd and enjoy a distinct home field advantage.

This season, Washington is undefeated at home. The Wildcats finished third in the Meadowlark League. Its two losses in six league games were to undefeated conference champion Atchison (8-0, 6-0) and rival Schlagle (3-5, 3-3).

Seaman is winless in four road games this year. The Vikings have yet to win more than two consecutive games. After a 2-0 start to the season, Seaman enters the postseason with just two wins in its last six games.

Washington began the season 3-0. The Wildcats have yet to win in back-to back-weeks since, finishing the season with three losses in five games.

The Wildcat program wants to unite Wyandotte County and bring competitive football back to all Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.

Knocking off Seaman in the first game of the state playoffs would go a long way in making a statement winning football is played in KCK.
