Take a look back at Week 5

Welcome to Five From Friday our weekly feature that highlights some of the best quotes, notes, stats and performances of the games Friday night.

Quote of the night
“Everyone thought that we would have a really big drop off, when you graduate 22 seniors. Well, this year’s senior class, came out with a chip on their shoulders, and they have played really well.” – Pleasant Hill coach Justin Hamilton after his team’s 24-21 win over unbeaten Odessa moved the Roosters to 5-0 on the season.

Stat line of the night
Isaiah Mozee, Wide Receiver, Lee’s Summit North – The junior had a big night with six catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns in the Broncos 34-22 win over Blue Valley Northwest.

Call of the night
When Gardner-Edgerton hit the road to head to Mill Valley it was a chance for a rare battle of No. 1 teams. The Trailblazers came in as the No. 1 team in Class 6A while the host Jaguars were No. 1 in 5A. It wasn’t much of a game as Gardner-Edgerton took to the air to score early and often. Spectrum Sports Kevin Wike was on the call.

Team of the night
Lawrence Free State – The Firebirds moved to 4-0 with a 41-12 win over Shawnee Mission Northwest. Free State has flown under the radar to start the season but people are starting to notice after a fourth-straight winning effort to open the season.

Big Winner
Football fans in the Metro – Last week there were several crossover games with teams from the EKL, Suburban Conference and Rockhurst playing teams from across the state line. This hasn’t always been the case in the last couple of decades but this has been a good development for programs on both sides of the state line and we at PrepsKC hope it continues.
