If you were to rattle off a list of the best “programs” in the city there would be a lot of obvious names on the list. Rockhurst, Bishop Miege, Blue Valley, Blue Springs, Staley, etc.

All those teams have one thing in common – they win—a lot.

Sure, there’s other aspects of building a program, but at the end of the day, winning makes everything a lot easier.

That’s what makes this year’s North Kansas City football so intriguing.

The Hornets are off to a 4-0 start and show no real signs of slowing down.

It’s the first time Northtown has had more than three wins since 2013 and 2012, two seasons when they went 5-6.

Led by talented C.J. Price, the Hornets suddenly feel on the verge of doing something great.

They beat Fort Osage on Friday night in what has to be considered a program-defining win.

But as important as that win was, wins like that can pay dividends for future seasons. Kids want to play for winners.

Winning teams get more kids out for football. More kids are never a bad thing, both from depth and participation.

These kids’ parents when they are looking for a job, are looking for the equivalent of a winner when it comes to a career. Jobs at winning companies are hard to get. Lots of people apply for those jobs.

It’s the same way on the football field.

This North Kansas City team has the world ahead of them. A deep playoff run would be memorable, but perhaps their best legacy would be becoming the foundation of a longtime winning program.
